Purchasing Options

Option 1:

Schools purchasing TBMH tutor delivery of groove’n’play programmes will benefit from the following:

- Trained TBMH tutor delivery

- Use of the groove’n’play materials for the length of the delivery period

- Access to free groove’n’play inset for any number of school staff

N.B. Attendance at groove’n’play Inset is recommended

Programme Costs for delivery with Tri-borough Music Hub Tutors:

- 1 tutor delivery model for 1 class = £550 (per term – 10 sessions)

- (includes 30 mins per week for PPA, plus set-up/pack-down time for the Lead Tutor)

- 2 tutor delivery model for 1 class = £990 (per term – 10 sessions)

- (includes 30 mins per week for PPA, plus set-up/pack-down time for the Lead Tutor; and 15 mins per week instrument maintenance and set-up/pack-down for the Support Tutor)

NOTE:

- Costings above are based on a 45 minute lesson plus set-up

- Instruments can be hired from the Music Hub at a cost of £100 per term (subject to availability)

- There is no additional licence cost for schools buying-in Tri-borough Music Hub tutors to deliver the programmes. The licence would expire at the end of the TBMH delivery period. If, at a later date, a school chooses to move the delivery to their own in-house teachers, they would be charged £150 per lifetime licence in accordance with ‘programme costs for in-house delivery’ – see next section for more information.

Option 2:

Schools purchasing groove’n’play programmes, to be delivered by the school, will benefit from the following:

- Annual licence gives access to GnP's programme via groove@school

- Teacher’s ebook with schemes of work, session plans, delivery suggestions and top tips

- Animated online content for classroom delivery

- Access to National Curriculum related information

- Access to groove ‘n’ play planning and progression curriculum support materials

N.B. Attendance at groove’n’play Inset is strongly recommended

 

Programme Costs for in-house school delivery:

Schools have the option to purchase:

- Individual Programme at a cost of £35 - optional additional teacher users at £20 per user.

- Multi-Programme licence available for £99 - optional additional teacher users at £30 per user. (CPD is highly recommended).

Schools can purchase a groove@school annual licence for each programme and deliver it in-house. The cost of each licence is £35

groove@home provides additional resources to support a child’s learning beyond the groove ‘n’ play classroom in order to support individual independent practice resulting in the further raising of music standards.

It is recommended that groove@home be used:

- by individual children as a follow up to work in the classroom

- as additional resources to complement groove ‘n’ play whole class programme delivery

Annual licences for groove@home online include:

- access to easy to use online animated programme resources

- scaffolded imaginative and engaging learning tasks

- unlimited access at home and school

To complement their groove@school programme, schools can purchase an annual licence for £30 per programme for access for up to 100 children in their school. No child's name or information is required, requested or held by groove'n'play.

groove’n’play – ukuleles sticks & songs

Sticks & Songs Series

Ideally suited to Year 2 or Year 3.

ukuleles sticks & songs builds up a class ensemble and incorporates singing (unision to 2/3 part), playing improvisation and performance.

The songs cover a variety of musical styles with lyrics that support music learning and understanding.  Ukulele parts include open strings and one finger chords with the option to extend to more advanced chords. Basic notation concepts are introduced, together with percussion parts, that start with simple rhythm patterns, with the scope to progress to more complex rhythms through improvisation.

Instruments: ukuleles, sticks, egg shakers.

Featuring: The 50-50 Chance Dance, High-Low-High, Listen, Strummin’ the Blues, Performance Sensation, So Latin.

groove’n’play – recorders sticks & songs

Sticks & Songs Series

Ideally suited to Year 3 or Year 4.

recorders sticks & songs builds up a class ensemble and incorporates singing (unison to 4 part), playing, improvisation and performance.

The songs cover a variety of musical styles that support music learning and understanding as well as linking to other areas of the National Curriculum. Recorder notes are gradually introduced (unison to 2 part). Breathing technique is developed to support both singing and playing. Notation animations support music reading skills for both percussion and recorder parts.

Instruments: recorders, sticks, egg shakers

Featuring: The Pipe and Drum (Show Them How We Do It), Sometimes, The Talking Bossa Nova, Do It Like You Dig It, Tango in the Bag, Can You…?


groove’n’play – fifths 1

Multi-Instrumental Series

Ideally suited to Year 4 or Year 5.

fifths 1 is whole class ensemble programme that aims to give KS2 pupils the opportunity to sing and to have a hands-on experience of a variety of instruments.

All the songs are stylistically varied with lyrics that have musical relevance. As with all Groove ‘n’ Play programmes, FIFTHS is designed to be accessible, fun, practical in approach, and musically engaging. The programme incorporates learning to read music notation, singing, improvisation and the opportunity to play various instruments. FIFTHS 1 can be an instrumental ensemble progression route from the Sticks and Song Series or can be used as an entry level First Access programme. 

Instruments: percussion, recorders, guitars, violins, keyboards.

groove’n’play – fifths 2

Multi-Instrumental Series

Ideally suited to Year 5, Year 6 or Year 7.

fifths 2 gives pupils a further opportunity to develop their music skills, technique and understanding through practical music making. All the songs are stylistically varied with lyrics that have musical relevance.

The programme continues to build up a class ensemble and incorporates reading music notation, singing, and the opportunity to play percussion, recorder, violin, and keyboard. In addition, there is the opportunity for existing pupil instrumentalists to play at their own level either following written parts or through improvisation. The vocal element of the programme extends the pupils’ ability to sing in different styles, in parts, and develops improvisation skills.

Instruments: all instrumental combinations including: percussion, recorders, guitars, violins, keyboards. 

Featuring: The I.T. (Italian Terms) Rap, Talk About Jazz, The Waltz.

groove’n’play – brass

Instrumental Programmes

Ideally suited to Year 5, Year 6 or Year 7.

The classroom brass programme is written for trumpets and trombones. The Brass programme builds up a class ensemble and incorporates reading music notation, improvisation and performance.

The programme includes pieces that initially cover an instrumental range of trumpet: C-G, trombone: F-B flat. The range is then extended to an octave for more advanced pupils.

All sessions are designed to support the development of music skills, knowledge and understanding.  The sessions include warm-ups, rhythm and instrumental exercises with accessible groovy music related to the progression of technique and musical development. Children will be able to demonstrate their musical understanding and learning through performance.

Instruments: trumpets, trombones.

Featuring: Raspberry Rag, Tonight’s Special Guest, Games of Bones, Bring It On, Attitude, A Little Night Waltz, Go 'n' Strutt Ya Stuff, Attack of the Mars Bars, A Little Night Waltz.

groove’n’play – strings

Instrumental Programmes

Ideally suited to Year 4, Year 5, Year 6 or Year 7 classes.

The strings programme builds up a class ensemble and incorporates reading music notation, improvisation and performance.

The programme includes ensemble pieces for violin, viola, cello and double bass that cover open strings progressing to basic fingering in 1st position.

All sessions are designed to support the development of music skills, knowledge and understanding.  The sessions include warm-ups, rhythm and instrumental exercises with cool and accessible pieces related to the progression of technique and musical development. Children will be able to demonstrate their musical understanding and learning through performance.

Instruments: violins, violas, cellos, double basses.

Featuring: Haunted House, Daring Detectives, Foot Tapper Blues, The Quirky Turkey, Manhattan Taxi, Latin Mystery, The Showdown Hoe Down, Pizzicato Swing, Loungin’, A Little Night Waltz.

groove’n’play – guitar & mini bass

Instrumental Programmes

Ideally suited to Year 4, Year 5, Year 6 or Year 7.

The guitar and mini bass programme builds up a class ensemble and incorporates reading music notation, improvisation and performance.

The programme includes stylistically varied repertoire. Ranges: mini bass: E-upper A, guitar: E -upper G, basic major, minor and 7th chords, picking (pima) and strumming techniques. 

All sessions are designed to support the development of music skills, knowledge and understanding.  The sessions include warm-ups, rhythm and instrumental exercises with cool repertoire related to the progression of technique and musical development. Children will be able to demonstrate their musical understanding and learning through performance.

Instruments: guitars, mini basses (optional).

Featuring: Haunted House, Daring Detectives, Foot Tapper Blues, Tonight's Special Guest, Fettuccine, Reflections, Attitude, I Wanna Play (In a Band), Groove-E.

groove’n’play – woodwind

Instrumental Programmes

Ideally suited to Year 4, Year 5, Year 6 or Year 7 classes.

The classroom woodwind programme is written for flutes and clarinets in C. The programme builds up a class ensemble and incorporates reading music notation, improvisation and performance.

The programme includes pieces that initially cover an instrumental range: flute D-D’, clarinet G-G’.

All sessions are designed to support the development of music skills, knowledge and understanding.  The sessions include warm-ups, rhythm and instrumental exercises with cool and catchy music related to the progression of technique and musical development. Children will be able to demonstrate their musical understanding and learning through performance.

Instruments: flutes, clarinets in C

Featuring: Haunted House, Foot Tapper Blues, Long Note Blues, Tonight’s Special Guest, Keep It Real, Pizzicato Swing, Bring It On, Slip Slidin’, Latin Mystery, Manhattan Taxi, A Little Night Waltz.

Rastamouse – Rocksteady Reggae School

Ideally suited to Reception or Year 1

The Rocksteady Reggae School is a classroom music resource based on the popular animation series, Rastamouse.  Sally Greaves, has adapted Andrew Kingslow’s music and devised the Rastamouse classroom programme to provide a hands-on musical experience.

The programme supports the early stages of music skill development and builds up a class ensemble incorporating sound and symbol, singing, chanting, action songs and playing instruments.

Instruments: ukuleles, egg shakers, drums and wooden spoons

Featuring: Bandulu’s Pie, Cookin’ and Jammin’, Take It Easy.


groove’n’play – fiddle sticks & songs

Sticks & Songs Series

Ideally suited to Year 2 or Year 3.

The fiddles sticks & songs builds up a class ensemble and incorporates singing (unison to 3 part), playing improvisation and performance.

The songs cover a variety of musical styles that support learning and understanding as well as linking to other areas of the National Curriculum.

The violin parts include open strings pizzicato which can also be played with the bow at an appropriate stage. Breathing technique is developed to support singing. Notation animations support music reading skills for both percussion and string parts.

Instruments: ukuleles, sticks, egg shakers.

About the hub.

The Tri-borough Music Hub is a centralised Local Authority service which receives core funding from Arts Council England. It is the lead organisation that oversees the delivery of music education in three West London boroughs: the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea; the London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham; and City of Westminster. We work with schools, children and young people and the music workforce.
